August 2024 Monthly Update
August was a tough month for me, but also an interesting one. If you don’t know me, which I’m assuming most of you do not, I got laid off on August 1st from basically my dream job. It sent me into a two week depression where I got next to nothing done. It set back a lot of my goals for Carry On and now I need to revise the schedule for it. On the other hand, August was also good because I got into YouTube shorts at the suggestion of my husband. It gained me a LOT of subscribers, which I am absolutely thrilled about. Let’s go into some more detail…
August Goals
My goals for August were the following:
Carry On Prototype
The Carry On prototype was the biggest goal I had, and by far the most challenging. I wanted it to be the main focus of August. Unfortunately my two week depression came first and I only had two weeks to work on it.
20 YouTube Subscribers
I’m so so happy with this goal. We surpassed this goal by over 20 subscribers! I started creating shorts, specifically of a 100 day challenge I set up for myself, and I started recording the art sketches I was doing in my sketchbook. This gained me a lot of views, a lot of subscribers and has be really encouraged and hopeful about the future. I’m going to keep moving forwards with shorts, and see where it takes me.
The long form videos I released, did not do so well unfortunately. A lot of what is consumed on YouTube are shorts, which has me feeling frustrated about the time I’ve lost putting so much effort into my videos just for them to not get a single view.
I’m going to focus more on shorts, and release long form videos significantly less often at once a week instead of twice. I cannot keep up with two long form a week and the minimal gains it makes me, but I do think that once a week is still viable. I can create more meaningful content that will hopefully get more views.
Consistent Video Release Schedule
I released a lot of videos in August! Obviously I had a lot more free time to work on creating video content, and I will for the next little while, but with shorts being so prevalent I’ll be decreasing the video release schedule to once a week. We had some exciting videos released for August however, including our first Carry On Devlog, as well as finally wrapping up the Sea of Stars playthrough.
The videos I released are:
September Goals and Looking Forwards
My goals for September are:
Continue to work on Carry On to wrap up the August goals, but also run the first playtest
Implement any playtest feedback as needed
100 YouTube subscribers
8k Views
45h Watch Time
Release 4 videos on the 6th, 13th, 20th and the 27th
I’ll be recruiting for the playtest soon, so if you’re interested follow us on Twitter or join our Discord!
