Working on Networking… Still

Happy Sunday! You’ll notice I didn’t post a blog last week, and that’s because I’ve changed the blogs to be bi-weekly instead of weekly. Honestly, I don’t have enough free time in the week to provide enough updates for a blog each week. When I was doing weekly blogs previously, I was essentially running myself into the ground without fully realizing it. I can’t keep going full steam ahead when I have no energy left. Hopefully each blog now will contain significantly more updates for you guys to follow along with! I’ll also keep posting any updates, videos, etc. on my Discord, twitter and YouTube channel, so make sure to follow if you want to keep up with what I’m doing!

Daughter of Bones

This last week I accomplished multiple things. I finally got around to taking my first stab at writing up some skill trees for Daughter of Bones! I did a stream last week where I created 3 different sprites for swords, as well as two gifs, one for a coin pickup and one for an EXP pickup. I fully drafted upgrade trees for the fire sword and the ice sword. I did start the crystal sword, however I haven’t decided what it’s “power” is yet, therefore I can’t write upgrades for it. Fire and ice are typically very easy to write out, it’s been done so many times before. Freeze, slows, burns, burn time, burn damage, etc.

My goals for the next two weeks includes adding these skill trees and coin/EXP pickups to DoB. I’m not sure I’ll be able to get it done in time, but I think it’s a relatively decent goal to have. This means I have to do the following in order: Upgrade tree pixel icons, EXP pickups code, coin pickups code (usage for coin pickups might be a later goal as I haven’t designed a shop yet), UI upgrade tree, and finally have it all working together so the upgrades actually affect the player.

Networking

The goal to learn networking has been my main focus the last bit. I’m glad I got those sprites and upgrade trees done for DoB, but networking has definitely been taking up a lot of my time. It’s incredible just how hard networking is. I’m hoping to wrap up my written learning today. All that’s left is RPC calls, which I’ve already attempted to understand previously through some very limited resources, so I don’t think it will be as bad as some of the other topics I’ve touched upon. I also still want to finish watching the samyam video and the Code Monkey video. Following along with them of course in code.

Updated Streaming Schedule

Briefly going back to what I said above, I’ve been running myself into the ground a little bit. Streaming four days a week is too much for me, especially when I’m trying to do so much more. I’ve scaled back a little bit and instead of predetermining what I’m streaming (which I didn’t follow anyways, let’s be real) I’ve just made it a general stream and I’ll stream what I want to that evening. My streams typically last about 2 hours long, and are either a video game, or art. I'll be trying to focus more on art. My new streaming days are now Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. If you ever forget, please check my website! If you miss a stream as well, they’ll also be posted on YouTube and linked here as well. Most art streams will be turned into a speed paint, so if you want to join live make sure you follow on Twitch and turn on your notifications!
