January Monthly Update

Woo, January! Not a very exciting month for DIDS. My goals for January included:

  1. 100 Twitter followers - Completed! We reached 103 followers!

  2. 10 YouTube subs - Completed! We barely reached this goal, but we reached it at 11 subs!

  3. 10 Discord members - Not completed. Discord is incredibly hard to grow as a community, so I’m not disappointed in this. Right now we’re at 8 members. I think we lost a member this month as we were at 9, but that’s okay. Our server is incredibly quiet so I don’t blame them. BUT if you are interested in joining I would greatly appreciate it!

  4. Inner Demons first world prototype - Not completed. I started making it in Unity but I really need to swap over to Unreal Engine. I’ve created a list of several projects to follow along with to learn UE5, so I hope that I’m able to learn it quick.

What else have I been working on?

First of all, learning UE5. I think that’s the most obvious to start out with. I’ve found several tutorials that I plan on following along with.

How To Make Your First Game - Unreal Engine 5 Beginner's Tutorial by RizzoFrizzo

Remaking Pokémon in Unreal Engine 5 LIVE - Part 1 - Field Pokémon AI by Ryan Laley

Unreal Engine 5 Tutorial - Action RPG Part 1: Movement by Ryan Laley

I’ve also been doing a lot of learning on thumbnail creation, as well as running social media. I’ve never been a big social media person, for example I cannot stand TikTok, I think it’s one of the most obnoxious things ever made. Regardless, I’m learning how to effectively make thumbnails and get those clicks, and to promote DIDS better on Instagram and Twitter.

Speaking of Instagram, we’re now back on Insta! I guess we never really “left” but it was dormant for several months and the last postings were for resin pieces many many months ago. If you’re more of an Instagram person than a Twitter person but still want updates, give us a follow!

Art isn’t something I’ve talked a large amount on in these blogs, besides some pixel art and pixel art for game development purposes. I used to create a lot of 3D pieces with resin and molds, and unfortunately that’s been put on hold until I can get all my molds to where I’m living now. I also used to do a lot of physical and digital art, which has both kind of been put on “hold” as well. I have access to stores where I can get media to make art, such as paint and such, but I don’t want to duplicate everything I have so the art supplies I’m buying are limited. However, I did purchase an iPad for myself. I’ve heard nothing but good things about using it and Procreate to create digital pieces, and since I don’t have my nice drawing tablet, I figured this would be nice to have as well as for doing art on the go. I’m hoping to open up art commissions and sell Twitch emotes soon. I feel like I have way too much learning to do all at once so this might take a while, but I’d really like to get back into the groove.

Uploaded Videos

5 new videos were uploaded this month. We wrapped up Chicken Journey with episodes 2, 3, 4 and 5. This was a fun and relatively short game to play, I highly recommend that you watch the series!

Chicken Journey Let's Play - Ep. 2 | Frog Temple and First Scroll!

Chicken Journey Let's Play - Ep. 3 | Collecting Beeswax and Caster Bean Oil

Chicken Journey Let's Play - Ep. 4 | Owls vs. Squirrels

Chicken Journey Let's Play - Ep. 5 | THE FINAL EPISODE AND THE ANSWER TO THE ULTIMATE QUESTION!

We also released our THIRD video in our Colour Quest series! These videos take quite a bit of time to produce (and I’m working on the poor-ish audio quality) so please give it a watch and a like! I hope you appreciate it.

COLOUR CONTEXT & BLACK AND WHITE | Colour Quest - The Ultimate Guide to Understanding Colour Theory

And that’s it for January! I hope that February I can get the goal of the first world of Inner Demons done and ready for playtesting in UE5, so wish me luck!
