Solid Foundation

Sorry this blog is a day late - but it’s worth it! I was working later than I should’ve been last night on Daughter of Bones but I’m happy I did. The main menu, pause menu and the settings menu is now working and it looks fantastic! It finally feels like a game that is coming together.

If you go to Projects -> Daughter of Bones you’ll see several gifs of updates, as well as a video for this weeks progress. You can see the progress of the game and how it was created, like the steps that I took and the order I did things in. So far the following has been completed:

  1. Player movement (input)

  2. Player animation

  3. Mushroom enemy movement

  4. Mushroom animation

  5. Health and corresponding game over state

  6. Main menu

  7. Settings

  8. Pause menu while playing

  9. Settings while in pause menu

  10. Quitting the game

It may not seem like a lot, and there’s still a long way to go, but it feels and looks good to have the base foundations complete. Next steps are to implement the player attacking, and then item pickups. Both of those are required to start implementing an skill tree upgrade UI upon leveling up. One step at a time, and hopefully I’ll be able to run my first playtest soon. I was hoping to have it done this week, but time got away from me.

I’ll also be working on finalizing my revamped Twitch emotes. If you sub on Twitch you’ll be able to use them on other Twitch channels, as well as on Discord (only if you join the DIDS server). I have a character that I want to use that represents me and the things I like. The emotes I have written down and sketched so far are:

  • Meowdy

  • Wow

  • Angry

  • Cry

  • Hungry

  • Love (already done!)

  • Sip

  • Comfy

  • Noted

  • Spooked

There are other ideas, however I can’t do all of them. If you have a preference for what you want to see, join my discord (top right hint hint!) and let me know. I’m more than happy to work with the DIDS community than just decide myself. Subbadges are also in progress of being redone! I can only do so many things at once though, I’m only one person so please be patient as new improvements take time. Come back again next week for another update!
